<<<<<"And what is the net result? A year when speculative excesses went from the sublime to the ridiculous. The S&P 500 rallied 48 percent from early October 1998 to its July 16 peak (the intended effect).

nine or nine point five out out ten who are mad at al greenspan didn't match the s and p's amazin' 48 % rally...some bought cpq and are down 48 % ...that's just one example...its these guys and gals that still think someone (i guess al.com) owes them...the market always 'owes' people who haven't matched its performance...dell will owe people who bought north of 40, and many won't sell, they'll get mad at anyone who crosses them, instead of taking an hour to read a history book or look at the fundamentals of the biz...they'll finally toss in the towel at Heinz' target of six (or was his seven and yours six <g>) at which point it will do a dead rat bounce and double...

those that bought index funds in october still have lovely profits and COULD lock them in ...

but they won't...
