No wish to pick a fight.

We have vastly different perspectives and a resulting difficulty in understanding each other.

I don't imortalize Joplin/Hendrix any more than I do Michael Jordan. Artists should not be heros. They are just incredibly talented people, that's it. It makes some sense to emulate the guitar/backetball styles of Hendrix/Jordan. But that's it. I think it is better to teach our youth to differentiate this than to shield them from it. It's just my opinion. We will probably never agree on this. But that's OK, God still loves us both :-)

I'm a bit to young to have really gotten into Joplin/Hendrixs music. But, I can see the style influence in today's music. I think the Hendrix influence on modern Jazz is a good thing.

I tried to be a fundamentalist for a while, but could not have my questions satisfactorly answered. Their alternative "contempory christian culture" that was supposed to be so much superior had its own problems. The Christian Coalition is accepted without questioning their deceptive political tactics. (ever check into their voter guides?) The Revisionist historical position is accepted without question. (One guy was actually preaching that Thomas Jefferson was a fundamentalist christian!) "Scientific" creationism is accepted without even trying to understand what the scientific position really is. JOsh McDowell writes garbage, but is "supports" their viewpoint, so he's some sort of hero. It seems that shielding children from one set of untruths, exposes them to another set :-( (That's the dilema)

And people said very similar what you said:

>>>I think I spend my time letting Jesus work on me and a lot less time bashing others..whether they be evangelist or rockstars, or ball stars. Pick a fault in someone else and God is more interested in working with me on my faults than me continually talking about faults in other christains whether they be on TV or not.<<<

I trusted in letting Jesus just work on me and got tricked into other false stuff that well intentioned people were pushing. Almost lost my faith. Learned to trust in God but have learned to be very careful with all the other "cultural" stuff associated with it.

May God bless you and your family. Hope you can understand my dilema without getting angry at me.

P.S.
May God bless us all so we have more money to give to charities.
(I know we all can agree upon that :-)
