Folks, I am a very occasional lurker on this thread.

Comparing Open Market and BroadVision is very relevant. They are direct competitors. I know many firms considering large scale eCommerce deployments and the usual suspects on the vendor shortlist always includes these two companies.

I know OMKT does not break down their revenue number into Transact revenues (direct enterprise sales model) versus ShopSite revenues (commission on sales model) but I would guess that the enterprise sales still make up the lions share today. This is where they compete head-to-head with BVSN.

Open Market was first to market in this space, they were in business long before BroadVision and were making more in revenue than them for a long time. But in recent quarters BroadVision have raced right by them. Compare their respective revenue numbers:

QTR BVSN OMKT
Q198 10M 15M
Q298 11M 17M
Q398 13M 14M
Q498 16M 16M
Q199 18M 16M
Q299 23M 18.6M
Q399 30M 18.0M

In Q3 BVSN had 27% growth Q-to-Q and 122% Y-to-Y. OMKT actually managed to decline sequentially and was only up 76% over the year ago quarter.

I think it is clear that BVSN is eating OMKT's lunch here.

Full Disclosure:

I worked for a company a while ago that used OpenMarket's software for their eCommerce site. Since then I have had an interest in the fortunes of the company purely due to curiosity.

I currently have no position in OMKT either short or long, neither do I have any position in BVSN or any of their competitors.
