I agree, dioxin can be a very toxic subject. (OK, I will admit it - pun intended). Not to belittle an important health question, but, in the mid-80's, there was a hilarious episode of the English series "Yes, Minister" about dioxin, meta-dioxin and the potential for harm if a factory manufacturing meta-dioxin was built.

Urban legends tend to have just the right ring of verisimilitude necessary to get people to pass them on. Usually, the story is made out of whole cloth. Sometimes, perhaps in this case, it can do harm by making legitimate concerns appear ridiculous by adding improbable actions or results that do not stand scrutiny, causing the reader to conclude all of the story is illegitimate.

I can imagine the horror of asbestos-related disease and death, having witnessed my father battle the slow but inexorable onslaught of emphysema for over 20 years.
