SAP posts 64 pct slide in Q3 pre-tax profit

SAP, which said detailed information on its third quarter performance would be released at a news conference at 0830 GMT,
posted a nine-month sales increase of 14 percent to 3.46 billion euros and net income fell 24 percent to 285 million euros.

``The board now expects the 1999 pre-tax profit margin to fall below the 1998 level instead of increasing slightly, as was
originally expected,' SAP said.

Analysts had been eyeing the release of third quarter figures nervously after SAP last week revised its 1999 sales growth outlook
down to 15-20 percent from 25-20 percent, triggering a more than 10 percent fall in SAP's share price.

They had seen SAP reporting third quarter pre-tax income of 235-260 million euros.
