The National Post reports in its Wednesday edition that an after-deadline
bid for the Timmins mining operations of Royal Oak Mines Inc. has been
rejected by the gold company's receiver. On Oct. 12, Potter Station Power
Co. Inc. offered to purchase the money-losing Nighthawk and Pamour mines
for $4.8-million (U.S.). If successful, the private Timmins-based developer
planned to reopen the two mines and rehire the work force of 250. But the
bid arrived six days after receiver PricewaterhouseCoopers Inc. had agreed
to sell the Timmins operations on a shutdown basis to Toronto's Kinross
Gold Corp. for $5-million (U.S.).
