That's precisely the point, the Onex deal is not a straight cash deal

Neither is Air Canada's offer. They wil pay $12 dollars a share for only 35% of the shares. If you spread the money to all shareholders, this gives about $4 bucks and change per share. Onex bid also results in $4 bucks and change per share, *cash*.

I do expect Onex to come back with an improved offer. However according to the Globe and Mail AC seems to have signed a poison pill making it impossible for CA to buy AC at *any* price. How's that for safeguarding of shareholder's interest?
