He shouldn't even be playing in the market if it is mortgage money.
My best guess for the delay is that it was requested by the potential buyer. The stock has been capped the past few days and this is usually for a reason. As reported, a meeting with Telus has probably already taken place and a price has probably been discussed. The release of earnings could complicate a deal as any premium offer that might be agreed on would be compromised by a drastic stock price change. If the stock price of CN.B dropped 15% on bad earnings, a buyer might be viewed as having paid too much if they made a $14 offer.
I reviewed the fundamentals of the company again last night. If Telus were to buy CN.B, they would eliminate a large long distance competitor, they would gain a national network, and they would gain LD and internet customers.
The last company I saw with assets like this trading at this kind of price was RCI.B last Xmas...it went up 8 times in price in just over 6 months.
You just have to answer three questions in a situation like this...
#1)Does the company want to sell?
#2)Does somebody want to buy?
#3)Will the deal be at a higher price then the current stock price?
