Hi John,
About Cisco... you may be right, they may be just hiding their hand at this point. Though they did mention that they had considered the cable modem side & decided to back off because of MOT being in. My take on Cisco is that they don't like crowded markets. They like to be the primary supplier, hence their interest in Gigabit Ethernet. ADSL may be in most homes, but competition will be stiff and the margins relatively low... But then again, one never knows... :)
>>>To get telco business, you need to have more than a good box, you need to have one that the operations organizations can work with, and like. It generally takes time and resources to develope the particular interfaces that telcos like to see and manage. Also, enough cannot be said about relationships when it comes to this. As with most technologies, those vendors that have been around for a while with a working product bring a sense of comfort to those who are to make the decisions regarding a service that may have such a large impact on residential service.<<<<
I attended the road show from Farallon today. I had never heard of this company before, though they have been around for 10 years. They have ISDN routers & modems (a product family called Netopia). They mentioned that although last year PSINet was using more than 80% Ascend products, right now Netopia is almost on an equal footing at PSINet. I guess this goes to show the difference in attitude between ISPs & telcos... :)
thanks again,
