A novice's guide to using EPAC (as provided by Celestial Technologies' Audio Library 2.0 beta)

To obtain the beta release of Audio Library 2.0, go to celestialtechnologies.com and follow the links to download the 4 MB installation file (audiolib-2.0.exe). It is necessary to remain on-line while installing the downloaded file. Complete the registration form, using whatever company name that is appropriate.

Once installed, the program can be used with its standard default settings. The interface includes the following:

1) Standard CD player-type controls for (left to right) skip back, fast reverse, stop, pause, record ("rip"), play, fast forward, skip forward, continuous (loop) play (not implemented), a <> (?, not implemented), and a refresh file list button. The purple/orange Celestial logo to the left of the play/record controls will connect you to Celestial's website.
2) Beneath the Celestial logo are buttons for selecting the source data location. 'Library' will show all files created and stored by the Audio Library. 'CD' will show the contents of a CD if present in the CD drive. 'Hard drive' will allow you to browse and select WAV files from a hard drive or other similar device either internal to your PC or connected via LAN. The 'Web' and 'Portable' functions are not yet implemented.
3) In the CD or Library mode, the CDDB button will read the Album title, song titles, artist, and other info and display it in the left (track/artist/etc.) window.
4) If in Library mode, the right side (Temporary Playlist) of the split window can be minimized by pressing the >> button to the right of the CDDB button. The Scan button to the left of the CDDB button allows you to brows and import EPAC or MP3 files not stored in the Audio Library folder.

To 'rip' a CD on to your hard drive, do the following:
1) Place the CD in the CD-R or CD-ROM drive.
2) Press the CD mode select button.
3) Press the CDDB button
4) Select either the entire CD or individual tracks to be ripped by highlighting them with the cursor. (The ctrl key may be used when selecting multiple tracks.)
5) Press the green oval Record button to begin the compression process.
6)The process will run until all selected tracks are recorded onto your hard drive, a process lasting from 2-18 minutes, depending on total length of the selected tracks or CD.
7) You can experiment with sample/bit rate settings via the Settings tab in the right hand portion of the CD mode Track/Title window.
8) Play back your EPAC tracks as you would a normal CD.
9) Once the Audio Library is installed, it will automatically actuate and play back files if you double click them from Windows Explorer.

That's all I know about this s/w package. Corrections, amplifications and other comments are welcomed.
