(In particular, it's the screen you look at thru the viewfinder of a single lens reflex camera; the image you see is projected against the reticule via the lens assembly and a retractable mirror in the camera body. This allows for very sharp focusing, since the reticule is on the same apparent focal plane as the film, due to the geometry of the mirror. - TR)
