(NN) Newbridge Networks and FlowPoint Announce Interoperability of Voice-over-DSL Products
KANATA, Ontario & SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct 20, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
NEWBRIDGE (TSE:NNC.) (NYSE:NN)-- Product Interoperability to Enable Delivery of Integrated Voice and Data Services
Newbridge Networks (NYSE: NN; TSE: NNC) and FlowPoint Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cabletron Systems (NYSE: CS), today announced the full interoperability of the companies' symmetric digital subscriber line (SDSL) and Voice-over-DSL (VoDSL) products.
The Newbridge(r) MainStreetXpress 36170 Multiservices Switch -- the largest selling asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switch in the industry -- and the Newbridge 350 Integrated Versatile Services Node (IVSN) -- the industry's first fully integrated narrowband and broadband services access platform - are now certified to connect with FlowPoint's 2200 SDSL Router and 2200V Integrated Access Device (IAD).
"Establishing certified interoperability with customer premises equipment suppliers is important to our ability to offer reliable end-to-end DSL solutions," said Kevin Rankin, assistant vice president, Broadband Copper Networks, Newbridge Networks. "FlowPoint has demonstrated best-of-breed product development with its FP2200 and 2200V voice and data routers. These products help the Newbridge SDSL solution to link businesses and their remote locations with the rest of the networked world."
"Newbridge Networks has an expansive, industry wide installed base of broadband multiservice ATM central office platforms," said Chuck Waggoner, president, FlowPoint. "We believe this interoperability certification will provide a real benefit to customers who have built their networks based on Newbridge gear and are looking for reliable and compatible customer premises equipment. We also view today's announcement of successful product interoperability as a first step to developing a long-term, broad-scoped relationship between the two companies."
The FlowPoint 2200 Router and FlowPoint 2200V IAD allow users to connect to Internet service provider (ISP) networks and remote local area networks (LANs) over regular copper telephone lines at broadband speeds up to 75 times faster than standard analog modems. All FlowPoint routers and IADs include a set of high performance routing and bridging features, providing compatibility with the protocols most commonly used in the Internet and corporate intranets.
