obliged to report it to the SEC?
My way of thinking is, that there are reporting rules related to the size of your holdings. If the company is not reporting, you may be breaking the rules unknowingly. You do not want to find yourself on a wrong side of the law, so you request the company to release the relevant information. Say they refuse. What next? You don't feel comfortable and certain about your continuing to be a law obeying investor. Wouldn't it be a good reason to ask the SEC to assist you with obtaining such info from the company.
Or "not reporting" means not reporting at all, no matter what?
