You comment that you think afterhours prices are not all that significant
I couldn't agree with you more. For example, here's the after-hours bid and ask for AOL at MarketXT. Notice the quantities involved, minuscule. A few buyers trying to snap up all of 100 shares cheap and most of the sellers trying to gouge potential buyers. For a stock that trades about 20 million shares a day, this entire collection amounts to about 5 seconds or less worth of trading volume. None of these bids or asks looks persuasive to me. The real answer, as you point out, will show up at tomorrow's opening, not in some light-weight after-hours session.
