Vital Statistics - 10/19/99

According to statistics from CEMA, for the week ending Oct. 8, 1999, the month-to-date total of DVD players sold was only 40,475, an increase of 147.7 percent from October 1998. Although this increase isn?t 300 percent plus as it typically is, it is still only the beginning of the month. Projection television sales are currently down for the month, having sold only 17,194, a (-3.3 percent) decrease. Year-to-date sales look much more prosperous, with the total number of DVD players sold reaching 2,413,833, a 321.9 percent increase over 1998 and projection television sales totaling 828,076, an 11.7 percent increase. Thus, overall the sales are looking fairly good and we near the holiday season. The September totals just came in. DVD player sales had a spectacular September with a total of 501,502 DVD players sold, a 341.6 percent increase over September 1998 sales and projection television sales were 160,790, a 27.4 percent increase. Keep checking DVD Insider as we track DVD player and projection television sales as we approach the new millennium.
