I was also under the impression that Ampex was pursing patent imfringement on their 8mm helical-scan recording patent against Mitsubishi. These are the 8mm video camcorders so popular in the consumer electronics market. From the earlier press release: REDWOOD CITY, CA, March 27, 1997 "Ampex Corporation (AMEX:AXC) reported today that it had successfully defended a patent infringement lawsuit brought by Mitsubishi Electric Corp. The suit was filed in the United States District Court for the Central District of California and alleged infringement of two Mitsubishi patents by certain Ampex video and data recorder products. Mitsubishi had filed the suit in December 1995, two months after Ampex had filed suit against Mitsubishi in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware, alleging infringement by Mitsubishi of three Ampex patents relating to certain Mitsubishi video recorder and television products." Looks like there are two more patents to go, all to be decided in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware. Perhaps they are releasing news on the three patent separately.
