The built to order model was being used in the 1950's by General Motors at the Fisher Body Fleetwood plant in Detroit Mi. manufacturers of Cadillac automobiles.Cadillacs were only built when a customer placed an order through a dealer.Which means that the concept and business model has been around well before computers were in vogue.
