Jon. Some random thoughts on 20/20
1) There will be a market reaction tomorrow, and those who specialize in amplifying news for their own profit will jump all over NOK, MOT and ERICY. Other companies will be hit by the fall out.
2) ABC tested analog only and thus gave the max shock effect with their program. They let others collect the wreckage from their report. People do believe what they see on 20/20 and many people's minds are tuned to believing the worst. Digital has to emit only a fraction of the radiation of analog and CDMA is the lowest power digital. One would think this would be a boost to CDMA and be devistating to AT&T's GPRS (?) high energy data scheme.
3) To the extent that there is some problem, poor MOT who has been selling analog phones and industrial walkie talkies for many years will be on the receiving end of many wrongful death lawsuits.
4) Designs of phones not having antenna pointing away form the head (digital Star Tack does a good job here) could suddenly become obsolete.
5) Because this is a long term exposure question, stocks shoulf bounce back after initial shock.
6) report could lead to a more rapid decommisioning of analog sites out in small towns. Lucent & NOrtel could benefit.
7)Using of a high profile successful person like Branson of Virgin Atlantic adds credibility---a large propaganda twist.
