Open Solutions Take Hold in US Cable Market as Leading Cable Company Joins DiviCom's List of Open Cable Operators
MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 21, 1999--DiviCom Inc., the world's leading provider of open solutions for digital television and a C-Cube (Nasdaq:CUBE - news) subsidiary, today announced that it has been selected by Cablevision Systems Corporation (ASE:CVC) to provide digital television headend equipment to its largest market, the New York metropolitan area.
Cablevision is one of the nation's leading cable telecommunications and entertainment companies.
Cablevision expects to begin introduction of the new service throughout its New York metropolitan area cable systems next year to a potential audience of more than 4 million homes.
The DiviCom system will help enable Cablevision customers to access an array of advanced services including digital video programming, digital music, video-on-demand, Web-enhanced television, e-mail, interactive program guides, and interactive game services.
Major US Cable Operators Invest in Open Solutions
Cablevision is the third US cable operator to select DiviCom's OpenCable(TM) compliant digital headend equipment. Other major operators that have selected DiviCom's technology include MediaOne© and Time Warner Cable©. OpenCable standards, currently being finalized by CableLabs©, a cable industry consortium, establish guidelines for interoperable digital set-top boxes, headends and other cable technology so that multiple vendors' equipment can be used together seamlessly. The OpenCable initiative will bring increased choice to both operators and consumers and will spur the delivery of innovative new services to end users.

DiviCom's IP Gateway product, Intersect(TM) gives cable operators the ability to deliver reliable TCP/IP traffic to the consumer set-top boxes. InterSect allows operators to connect their hybrid fiber coax (HFC) cable network to the Internet. When combined with consumer set-top box and other middleware partners, this technology enables the creation of compelling new services such as email, web-enhanced television, interactive advertising and video-on-demand.

Cable service providers use InterSect to deliver IP traffic to set-top boxes through existing cable television systems.
The MediaNode(TM) MN20 Remultiplexers: This technology grooms MPEG-2 streams generated by encoders and digital receivers, performs DVB scrambling and packages these signals into MPEG-2 transport streams for delivery over an HFC network.
DiviSys(SM) Systems Integration Support: The DiviCom integration team will be responsible for building, integrating and deploying all DiviCom technology and ensuring its seamless integration with other components of the Cablevision platform.
