The article is not about EGRP in particular, but about an FASB rule. Don't want to violate any copyrights, so I will just quote one paragraph.

What arcane accounting issue could possibly cause such palpitations in the very heart of American capitalism? It's a plan by the accounting industry's rulemaking Financial Accounting Standards Board to banish the widely used pooling-of-interests method, which critics say inflates earnings, in favor of the so-called purchase method, which forces acquirers to weigh down future earnings by writing off merger costs.
