NEW YORK, Oct 21 (Reuters) - Business activity in the nation's third economic district grew at a much
slower pace of groth in October, falling 10.7 points to a reading of 6.9 in the Federal Reserve Bank of
Philadelpia's regional Business Outlook Survey released on Thursday.

But despite the decline in the main index from last month, most of the survey's components rose,
particularly new orders and shipments. The new orders index jumped to 20.2 in October from 6.9 in
September, while shipments increased to 19.8 from 5.5.

''Increases in orders and shipments were not accompanied by any unusual delivery pressures,'' the survey
said. Delivery times were shorter in October than in September.

Prices continued to rise, though, with the prices manufacturers paid rising to 22.5 from 11.8 last month.
Meanwhile, prices received for manufactured goods jumped to 3.7 from -1.6.

The survey noted that expectations for future price increases soared. The prices paid index that measures
expectations six months from now surged to 43.7 from 23.0, while the future prices received index rose to
12.0 from 3.7, the Philadelphia Fed said.
