Just opened initial position in Sun at this 5% discount courtesy of IBM ;-) I am happy to have this dynamic and profitable net infrastructure company in my portfolio but have certain questions. I am still trying to piece together certain aspects of their business model and competitive landscape. As a start, could someone please guide me to a reliable source on how Sun servers stack up against competitors on a price/performance basis for hosting Java applications in a robust fashion. Are there objective tests available from reliable third parties? To what extent do Sun earnings derive from Solaris servers? I assume that portability of Java on the client side does not equate to such portability on the server end, or does it?

Not looking for opinions but hard data. Thanks in advance.
