I don't think you'll find much of the "hard data" you seek, and what you DO find probably won't be current, because this area is moving in "Internet time." For benchmarks (albeit not Java) I usually look at

tpc.org

and

specbench.org

Price/performance can be difficult to evaluate because of discounting.
