Ericsson CyberLab NY Establishes Developers Network and Partners with EarthWeb to Foster Development of Wireless Internet Applications
Developer Network Supports Companies Creating New Wireless Internet Applications and Services for Operator, Enterprise and Consumer Markets
NEW YORK, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Ericsson CyberLab NY today announced the launch of the Developers Network, part of its continuing effort to foster the growth of the Wireless Internet industry. With this program, Ericsson CyberLab NY will provide market and technical information, development and testing tools, and on-site expertise and seminars to help developers build new Wireless Internet applications and services.

In addition, Ericsson CyberLab NY is partnering with EarthWeb, Inc. (Nasdaq: EWBX - news), the leading provider of online information to the IT community, to create a Wireless Internet area on EarthWeb's flagship service, developer.com. In establishing the Developers Network and the EarthWeb Wireless Internet area, Ericsson continues its leading developmental role in the growth of the Wireless Internet industry. Together, with its development partners around the world, Ericsson will stimulate the creation of new wireless applications and services for its network operator, enterprise and consumer customers.

Initially, the Ericsson CyberLab NY Developers Network will focus on Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), a global standard co-founded by Ericsson, that makes Internet services available to mobile users. Ericsson WAP information, tools and support can be found at ericsson.com, the new global WAP-dedicated site for third party developers. The CyberLab NY Developers Network will expand to cover other Ericsson wireless technologies including:

-- Bluetooth, a universal short-range radio link that networks devices and
appliances wirelessly;
-- iPulse, a communications portal technology that enables an Operator/ISP
to deploy value added services that integrate Internet and other
communications;
-- General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) a network technology which allows
mobile users to connect to the Internet at up to 115 kilobits per
second;
-- EPOC, an operating system optimized for smartphones and handheld
devices.
-- Third Generation (3G), mobile services, advanced services that combine
high-speed mobile access (up to 2 Mbit/s) with Internet Protocol (IP)-
based services.

The partnership with EarthWeb will introduce the Developers Network and other Ericsson Wireless Internet initiatives a network of more than 15 million IT professionals.

In addition to EarthWeb, CyberLab NY has been working with 14 other development organizations who together comprise the charter members of the CyberLab NY Developers Network. These companies include Aether, AgentArts, Data On Air, Diversinet, Electronic Hollywood, GoAmerica, JP Systems, on board info, Palm Reach, PCS Innovations, Saraide, Thinking Media, w-Trade, and Wysdom. All of these companies currently develops wireless data applications for operator, enterprise and/or consumer use, and some of these applications will be showcased at Ericsson booths nos. 62 and 63 at NYNMA Super CyberSuds '99, October 25, at the Metropolitan Pavillion (http://www.nynma.org) , and will be on permanent display at the CyberLab NY facility in the New York Information Technology Center at 55 Broad Street.
