We will still see junk mail within EBPP, in fact Billers are counting on it. Junk Mail is a great revenue stream for Billers. The twist that EBPP will bring to the Junk Mail Industry is that it will be personalized Junk Mail. No longer will we see 10 pieces of blanket junk mail within the bill but maybe one or two click throughs (banners) for products that could be of interest to different demographics.

Currently when we receive a paper based bill, within the envelope will be numerous paper based inserts. These inserts typically have a 1% return rate. With personalized junk mail the return rate should be much greater as it can be targeted to specific markets.

The Internet allows a biller to develop specific cross selling content to consumers based on their actual usage patterns and spending habits. Customer information will be the engine that drives this market. On a monthly basis electronic billers can target specific sub-sets of their customer base with specific offerings related to that customers interests.
