I'm not convinced that split will be announced before November 2nd. I am not sure when the Board meeting is. Somebody posted scheduled board meeting dates a couple of weeks ago. Also, I am not sure that the company will announce the amount of the split; it may wait until around the time in January when the notice of the Annual Meeting is sent to make a final decision on that since the stock price has fluctuated so much. It could of course announce a contingent 2 for 1 and, if needed, split again later.

You previously wondered whether the market might react if the handset division sale does not produce a lot of cash. What would you think if there were a spinoff and a tax-free stock exchange to Qualcomm shareholders instead? I would take stock in the buyer; that would give shareholders a continuing interest in a handset maker. However, doing some quick calculations, the dollar value per share might be only $5, if the division were worth a billion.
