Good to see Global One is alive and well.
Now, I think I've figured out what's happening with NN (besides the selling pressure, most likely from Fidelity).
The company's very wisely decided not to say anything that would start a whisper number. Good plan since that would only raise the bar and leave them vulnerable. They're no doubt saying, been there, done that, not going to do it again.
To put it in a way we can all understand, think about one of the oldest domestic situations known to modern man: The ol' "Honey, how do I look" scenario:
Your spouse is all dressed and ready for a night out. She walks into the family room where you've been watching the news waiting patiently for her to get it all together.
"How do I look?" she asks, oh so casually.
You panic. You know there's no right answer. Never was. Never will be. Even a pause sends the wrong message. And if you refuse to answer, it's even worse. You have to say something. But what??? --- "You look better than I've ever seen you?" Yeah. Right. The last time you said that, she broke into tears, sobbing, "You mean I've never looked better than this???? I have PMS, I'm fat, my hair looks like sh&^%$## and you're saying I've never looked better?????"
Well, you get the idea. There is no right response.
And this, I believe, is the position NN's in. If they say they're on target two weeks before the quarter ends, analysts will say they're going to beat. If they say they're not on target, analysts will say they may not make numbers. If they refuse to speak. . .
And so it goes. Again, there's no right answer.
I think we just have to wait for the white smoke from the Vatican chapel. . .
. . . and pray for patience in the interim.
