U.S. Economy: Fed Report Shows Manufacturing Strength quote.bloomberg.com Philadelphia, Oct. 21 (Bloomberg) -- Orders and shipments at Philadelphia-area factories surged this month and a gauge of prices for oil and other raw materials rose to a four-year high, a regional survey showed. The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia said its October index of new manufacturing orders more than tripled to 20.2 from 6.9 in September. The shipments index jumped to 19.8 from 5.5.
