I would certainly agree that Russia's claim on the North Caucasus is a lot weaker than Serbia's claim on Kosovo.

And actually, yes, this time around Clinton & Co. are NOT comparing Boris to Abraham Lincoln. Indeed, they've said a few fairly strong words about ethnic cleansing of the Chechens not being a good idea -- how could they say anything different, after the Kosovo operation!?

I hope that this latest dreadful incident in the center of Grozny will open the eyes of those who still don't want to look facts in the face.

Would you believe it, the Russian military is denying that it launched any rockets at Grozny! All along they have consistently denied causing ANY civilian fatalities! They have even developed some fancy interpretations of their own, such as: the boyeviki are mining houses so that they will explode automatically when a Russian airplane flies overhead; Movladi Udugov (the Chechen propaganda master) blows up houses with dynamite, then pays people to pretend they are dead bodies, or mourners (take your pick), for the photographs...Hard to prove they are lying through their teeth, since there are practically no TV cameramen roving around Chechnya these days, but there are still lots of eyewitnesses. enough, I think, to undermine the military's credibility thoroughly...
