I'm an idiot. And I really hate the NT box, NT, and most of the stuff Microsoft has ever made. It makes my life as a part-time systems administrator hell. The 30+ hours was in addition to my regular work, but I had to persevere since I didn't have time to purchase a new box, or fight with Linux installation (Linux installation is not easy, but it is rock solid once you get it on), and my company depends on its internet access.

I wish I could bill Microsoft for all the hours sleep I've lost over the last 5 years due to their shoddy design and workmanship.

NT is not easy to administer. It's easy to open windows, and set dialogs, and fill in text fields, but you're really in the dark as to what is going on behind the scenes. And a lot of the services on the system have dependencies on each other that aren't apparent, and aren't checked for. Plus I always have to be physically present at the machine to administrate it. All I was trying to do was install a modem: and the NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 that I applied to try and fix some of the RAS errors I was getting rendered the machine non-bootable. That is pathetic.

James: I have learned to hate Microsoft: this is not a whim of mine, but has been learned over a long period of time.

Within the next year I fully intend to replace all Microsoft products in our organization, with their Linux and other Unix equivalents.
