<Refusing vaccinations - I have heard it can be done if you claim it's against your religious beliefs>
I also hear it varies state to state... only have experience with pre-schools, and it hasn't been a problem... but they're private. I figure it's probably a great way of avoiding school taxes "well you won't let my kid in there, so I sent him to private school". We've had some, avoided others so far.
<But lack of proof doesn't mean it isn't true - just that it hasn't been shown to be true using scientific methods>
And in many alternative areas [health food, medicines, etc] who's going to do the studies? So therefore it's not science = quackery... a little childish no? Further more, I don't understand where certain arguments get pegged as 'science vs non-science', for instance this GMO [or hormones, or other additives for that matter] thing. What science??? Sure the data backing pro-GMO is stronger than the data refuting it because there isn't any! So what? As far as I've seen there is so little data backing GMO that it may as well be zero as well. And since when did it become incumbant upon the public to prove that it's NOT O.K.???? Hell, all most people want is labeling! If I wanted to set up a trial proving GMO safety it would take hundreds of thousands of people from many gene pools and probably last 20 years right??? As far as hormones, junk food, or environmental pollution goes, based on the obesity stats I'd say anecdotal evidence is mounting that the fat American is certainly getting something in his system that's bothering him/her... there are certainly other societies that can afford to 'pig out' if they want. What's with that?
I'm not anti-GMO... I'm just amused by the fighting. There seems to be a big difference between Europe and here... over there they say 'why should I eat that?' 'How do I know it's safe?' In the States we seem to say to them... 'What do you mean it's not safe? Prove it or let me sell it!'
Anyway... all in all, people are figuring lot's of stuff out on these fronts for themselves, but as you suggest, I agree that it's mostly from the alternative side... not enough money in it for the establishment?
