Steve, Love your neighbor as yourself is okay. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you is a better way to put it. How about just saying don't be selfish? This is what we teach our kids. Nothing mystical about it, or specific to Christianity. The other one is a little more difficult. To love God, I have to know God. Not like knowing my neighbor, is it? The rule I live by is to act as if I am responsible to my Creator, while accepting that I cannot prove that I have one. In my own mind I am satisfied that this is a reasonable supposition, though certainly not a fact. Someday I may know for sure, or someday I may not know anything. Skipper
