James,

Kbps=Kilo bits per second

There are 8 bits in a byte.

When people say they have a 56k modem, they mean it could (in a perfect world) download at around 56 kilo bits per second (Kbps).

So when comparing your cable modem to regular modem, 560 Kbps is 10 times faster than standard dial up.

I just re tested, my fastest time was 2456 Kbps or 43.8 times faster than standard dial up. Or, 5.6 times faster than Junior Balloon's DSL... sorry Junior ;-) I may someday be with DSL as well, as a move may take away my @HOME.

Regards,
Jay
