Cabletron Extends High Performance Switching for the SmartSwitch 9000
New Fast Ethernet Solution Delivers 30 Million Packets-per-Second Using the SmartSwitch 9000's Distributed Architecture
ROCHESTER, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 22, 1999-- Cabletron Systems (NYSE:CS - news) today announced the availability of the 9H533-24 Fast Ethernet module for the SmartSwitch 9000 platform, delivering 2.2 million packets-per-second (pps) of on-module switch forwarding performance to meet the requirements of high-density enterprise workgroups.
The 9H533-24 provides 24 10/100 switched Fast Ethernet ports via two RJ-21 Telco interfaces, enabling flexible connectivity options in the wiring closet. This new solution connects to the high-capacity backplane of the 9000 to provide a total system bandwidth of 46.2 Gigabits per second (Gbps), and utilizes the SmartSwitch 9000's distributed architecture to deliver more than 30 million pps of aggregate switching performance in a fully loaded chassis.

The 9H533-24 builds upon the advanced features of the SmartSwitch 9000, including Inbound Rate Limiting (IRL), which allows network administrators to provision bandwidth for high-priority applications, delivering Quality of Service across enterprise networks.
The 9H533-24 also offers features such as SNMP management, RMON management (9 groups), and supports industry standards such as 802.1q VLAN, 802.1p class of service and 802.3x flow control. In addition, the new module is fully manageable from Cabletron's SPECTRUM management platform, as well as other standard SNMP-based management applications. |
