HOMEDEPOT.COM'S PROJECT CALCULATORS SAVE CONSUMERS TIME AND MONEY ON HOME IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS

ATLANTA, Oct 22, 1999 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Wondering just how
much grass seed you need to cover your yard? Repainting a room in time
for the holidays and puzzled about how much paint you need to cover
that faded blue? Handy, easy-to-use project calculators on The Home
Depot Web site (http://www.homedepot.com ) enable consumers to be more
efficient and economical when planning a home improvement project.

By automatically estimating the amount of materials required for a
project, the calculators help consumers buy just the right amount of
materials to complete a project, which can either save them money by
preventing over-buying or eliminate a second trip to Home Depot if they
underestimate.

To use the calculators, all consumers have to do is enter the
dimensions of an area into the proper calculator that tabulates how
much material -- such as paint, wallpaper, or grass seed -- should be
purchased to complete the project.

Project calculators currently available on the site include air
conditioning, grass seed, paint, wallpaper and tile. In the next few
weeks, consumers can look forward to finding new calculators at
homedepot.com including carpeting.

"The project calculators at homedepot.com are a great way for
do-it-yourselfers to save time and money in planning home improvement
projects," said Ellen Dracos, Home Depot's director of homedepot.com.
"Features like the project calculators demonstrate Home Depot's
commitment to deliver a high level of customer service through our
interactive and customer-driven Web site."

Home Depot's Web site at www.homedepot.com extends the company's
quality customer service from the stores to the Internet by providing
customers with more than 150 Project How-Tos, a personalized Home Team
home page and various project calculators.

Founded in 1978, in Atlanta, Ga., The Home Depot currently operates
more than 875 stores in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and
Chile. The company reported net sales for fiscal 1998 of $30.2 billion
and employs more than 190,000 people.
