Bill I agree that those in the higher income brackets are indeed paying more than their fair share.[ how ironic that they are accused of the opposite ] The top ten percent paying something like half all taxes paid by individuals. This may not be so efficient.A few years ago I made so much in the markets that I was put into a very high bracket. I looked at my tax rates including self employment tax and quit work for two years. [Unfortunately this happy circumstance is no more.] Having said all that if they don't pay the bulk of the taxes who will? I would support a flat tax if there were realistic assumptions that could convince me that the taxes needed would get paid. Fair or not I believe that some sort of progressive tax is needed. But nobody should half to pay half of their income to taxes.
