Frank; I guess it is race between the fly larvae and the eat 'em all animals and buzzards. In a jungle area buzzards may not be able to get in so you have larvae and animals/crocs etc. These factors would beat full decomposition to the punch as the larvae eat all. Bone and tooth DNA can endure for a great deal of time as it is unappetizing to most animals(I mean the bone/collagen matrix DNA, not the marrow which goes fast)
and is hard for bacteria to reach as it requires mobility in the matrix which most bacteria cannot do, being lyse based. If there was some drying out this could`preserve the DNA for some time. 3-4 days would still leave lots left if the animals did not get at it. Animals could eat a body completely in a day, crocs, carnivorous fish too. A lot depends onwhere the body lies and the local animals that can get at it.
The flies get everywhere, and once a carcass is flyblown most animals will not eat it(except buzzards, crocs, and other rot scavengers) How long was it before DeGuzman was found, just over 2 days. Not enough time for full larval development, but lots of small maggots throughout. Nice job. Not enough time for internal lysing to take place(except in the brain, and some organs which go fast, which is why the egyptions removed them when mummifying)
Small animal nibbling could account for the hands,, tongue eetc. small enough to nibble off bit by bit. No animal takes out upper and lower jaws except man, so if that is true, rat is smelled.
