While that is true, there are two drawbacks to the 840 platform:

1) It is more expensive. Two Rambus channels and a six-layer motherboard sure don't come for free.

2) It will be sold in lower volumes than 820.

I feel that 840 Carmel is a nice chipset that fills the space between the desktop and the enterprise server. But make no mistake about it, 820 Camino is the chipset that will spearhead Rambus' volume penetration into the market.
