Babcock Announces Decision To Depart Charter ST. LOUIS, MO, OCTOBER 18, 1999 Charter Communications today announced that Barry L. Babcock, Vice Chairman and one of Charter's founders, will be leaving the company in the near future.
"I feel that this is the appropriate time for me to leave Charter," Mr. Babcock said. "The company is in the capable hands of Jerry Kent and his outstanding management team. One of my greatest accomplishments was helping to build that team."
"I am extremely proud of what we have been able to achieve from rather humble beginnings, and I am absolutely comfortable that Charter's future is very bright, indeed."
According to Mr. Babcock, he has no immediate plans, other than to "take time off and spend some quality time with my family. As for my future, I am definitely not retiring, so I will be considering other options when the time is right."
Jerry Kent, President and CEO of Charter, said, "Barry has been my partner for 17 years. He has contributed immeasurable value not only to the business, but to me, personally. I am sad to lose him as a partner, but I respect his desire to move on and wish him the very best."
For the next few months, Mr. Babcock will be helping Mr. Kent and Charter's management team through the transition period while Mr. Babcock completes projects in which he is currently engaged.
