Some of them are violent, but not all, and that one in particular is not. Although he was a middle class Catalan from Barcelona (his father was an artist and teacher), and hung out in avant-garde circles both in Barcelona and Paris, and even though he was a bit of a "swordsman", I believe he remained deeply ambivalent about women and lust. For example, he was prone to getting married, although it never lasted (with the exception of his last, who outlived him), and living respectably, once he "made it", and yet he would end up "on the prowl".....
