I agree with you very much on the potential of Rational, particularly
after the merger if PASW products and reputation are as good as the
comments being made indicate.

One thought from a long time RATL holder is that I believe there is
another good reason that this merger makes a lot of sense when compared
to the suggestion to go out and build your own PASW product. If you
remember when the SQA merger was finally approved and even before that,
some of the analysts were questioning whether could effectively
service the new customers they would have. Some thought that they would
be spread too thin to really cover the growth that Rational was looking
to gain out of these changes. This was also brought up, I believe, when
the purchase of Visual Test from Microsoft was announced.

Now two positive things have happened (IMHO), Microsoft's consulting
group has announced that they will support the RATL Rose products (UML)
with their customers, and by merging with PASW they have picked up a
very good bunch of OOP people to add to their assets. I believe they
will be able to iron out the sales and/or marketing problems also. If
not, they should maybe find themselves another place to sell something.
I have a lot of confidence in the management of RATL and they have on
their payroll the "Three Amigos" whom I feel confident can solve any
of the technical problems lurking in the shadows of the integration.

Anyway, while the large and sudden drop took my breath away for awhile,
I am staying pat and have even bought more which I did not need. Maybe
the kids will be proud of me later down the road when they reap the
benefits of my foolishness. Only time can truly tell.

What are you thoughts on these aspects? Is there anyone else that can
even come close to matching them assuming they succeed? Elmer
