NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--The next 100 days will decide whether technology giant International Business Machines Corp.'s (IBM) warning of shrinking earnings in the fourth quarter due to Y2K-dampened computer purchases reflects a broader problem for the tech sector, said William Fleckenstein, president of of Fleckenstein Capital.
In an interview with CNBC Friday, Fleckenstein said he expects that along with IBM, big tech names such as Dell Computer Corp. (DELL), Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO), and Hewlett-Packard Co. (HWP) will suffer due to their dependence on corporate America for sale of their technology.
Given this view, Fleckenstein believes that currently "there is a lot more value in small caps than large caps."
