Skepticism about companies is always a good idea. However
your post failed to mention UTEK's I-line reduction stepper
product line acquired in the ISI acquisition last year.
There are reports from the analytical community that
UTEK's 1X stepper clients are purchasing the I-line
reduction system which allows them to continue to benefit
from UTEK's strong service and support team. There is
competition in these machines from the likes of Nikon,
Canon and ASML, so realized margins are under 1X stepper
levels. Also, the new I-line and Deep-UV steppers for GMR
manufacturing should be shipping in Year 2000. Remember,
UTEK has several R&D projects that have been underway.
These have included E-Beam, P-Gild, Flip Chip Saturn
Spectrum Three and I-line and Deep-UV. They do not have
to score on all of these to be successful. In fact, the
Flip Chip program looks very favorable over the next
three years or so using the Saturn Specturm Three.
Seems like company is making nice progress after a very
difficult period excaberated by the autumn 1997 Asian
meltdown. Strong CEO, strong CFO, tons of cash and
book value nearing $10 per share. Solid financials.
Skepticism should not be confused with forward prospects
based on real products and real demand.
