Tungsten is replacing lead in military munitions in the US, but it is also a large concern for the environment. The US Military routinely closes shooting ranges because the lead concentrations in the range is above recommenced safe exposure. Lead is considered to be major concern for lead poisoning of water fowl, and secondary for creatures who eat these water fowl, like eagles, and humans. I've read Canadian studies showing the health risks involved in consuming water fowl that has been killed using lead shot. The US is now starting to make tungsten shot for shot gun shells. I witnessed tests in which tungsten shot has penetrated sheet metal, which could only be dented by lead shot. The tungsten is extremely superior to lead in a number of areas. I can predict that the Canadian Government and Military will soon follow the US in banning lead shot to go to tungsten, and I'd say that it will probably be in the next year. If the US and Canada are having these problems, won't Europe and other countries be in the same situation. I think tungsten will be a very exciting commodity in the next few years.
