Roger and All: I don't know whether it was on this board or the ATHM board that I posted my thoughts on this troika some weeks ago when ATHM/Excite was rumored to be in play. As I said then it would be most logical for MSFT to buy ATHM/Excite in exchange for the T shares that it already owns +/- whatever consideration is necessary to do the deal. That leaves T as a common carrier with no ISP axe to grind and sets them free to open up the pipe to all qualified comers. It gives MSFT all of the ATHM/Excite customers to add to MSN and a leg up on AOL in terms of broadband capability.

Regarding Streetadvisors record on rumors they have been batting about 500. They will rumor that INTC is going to implode one day and rumor their introduction of new chips the next.

Having said that this is not so much a rumor as it is rather a logical speculation given the assets and parties involved.

With AOL having 20 million customers I can't see the anti-trust objection either. Speaking of which I think the AOL/NSCP (plus SUNW's affiliation) merger and the strengths of each of those companies in their repective areas of expertise and in consideration of where the tech world is heading, Jackson has the perfect out for giving MSFT no more than a slap on the wrist and that just to save face. If he rules against MSFT it will never stand up under Appeal but it will make the market agonize re: Softee for another year.JFD
