ALBANY, Calif., Oct 22, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Utility.com, the first
Internet utility company, was named the best-performing Web site among
144 U.S., U.K., Australian and Hong Kong utility companies in a
research study conducted by Andersen Consulting.
Andersen derived its ratings by comparing the utility sites to some of
the best e-commerce Web sites from other industries. It found the
top-performing utility Web sites to be as good or better than such
sites as Amazon.com, Qantas, CNN, Federal Express and Lonely Planet
On-Line, which are considered among the best in their industries.
Among the attributes of top-rated sites were the abilities to change
service plans, view and pay bills over the Internet, monitor energy
consumption and select the monthly billing date. However, Utility.com's
site outperformed the lowest-ranked Web sites by more than nine times
on such key functionality measures as quality and usefulness of
content, ability to conduct transactions, and range of interactivity.
