Weekend reading on ATM? ATM over ADSL article

On the subject of ATM, particularly end-to-end ATM to take advantage of QoS, the article below in the Oct 99 issue of IEEE Comunications Magazine (www.comsoc.org) is particularly interesting.

The 'providers' mentioned in the abstract are different ISPs and also specialized ISPs which offer telephone or video.

The author provides a nice interface which matches the market realities - an ADSL provider may not always want to have a 'captive' ISP as a partner, but will provide linkage to any of several different ISPs (for a price of course).

Service Provisioning in an ATM-over-ADSL Access Network
by Reuven Cohen

From the abstract:

"As deregulation and competition spread globally, an ADSL-based access network should also enable end users to choose their service providers dynamically, and to switch from one provider to another easily and rapidly, even on a real-time basis. In light of these requirements, this article addresses the issue of service provisioning in an ATM-over-ADSL access network."

(Might not be available to non-IEEE-members, but give it a try)
