What could NOVL contribute to e-commerce? From todays NYT Barnesandnoble.com Faces Suit by Amazon Over Patent By LESLIE KAUFMAN mazon.com has filed suit against rival Internet book and music seller Barnesand noble.com, accusing it of illegally copying its patented checkout system and demanding that it cease its use immediately. The suit, filed on Thursday night in Federal District Court in Seattle, is the latest chapter in a storied and sometime litigious rivalry. But if Amazon.com is successful in the suit, it could have broad ramifications for the development of E-commerce. Retailers that use variations of the popular "one-click" checkout method, which allows customers to make repeat purchases with one click of the mouse instead of having to fill out credit card and billing address with each shopping trip, could be forced to desist or pay a licensing fee to Amazon.com. ................... nytimes.com
