*OT* Maybe you should have said greatest FIELDING right fielder...Kaline would probably get the nod then....Clemente may have been better...
Carl Furillo...you guys are dating yourselves <G>! I've heard he had a great arm....but, actually, that opens the category way up then (Raul Mondesi, although a baby and underacheiver, has an unbelievable arm...)..But, we'll give it to Furillo...Actually, Clemente is hard to argue against there, either...
Was Ty Cobb a RF or a CF? If RF, Kaline may not have been the Tigers' best RF! <G>
Overall (BEST RF), it is impossible to argue against Aaron..His offensive statistics are so overwhelming..AND he was an excellent fielder..
RE: Braves fan....Picking Aaron really has nothing to do with me wanting the Braves to win the WS this year....I am surrounded by obnoxious Yankee fans (don't need a repeat of "best team ever" for another year)...AND the Braves WERE the best team in the league this year...and lord knows they deserve to win another WS..
You are correct that he (Aaron) is the most underappreciated (I would say athlete in any sport, any era...maybe some of the Negro league stars would be close)...Probably a function of his demeanor (somewhat aloof personally, can you blame him?), not being Michael Jordan graceful, playing during a time in which baseball was not as popular (as before/after) and, of course, color (at a time in which color was a definite PR handicap)...
His consistency was remarkable... |
