Joe, as to the operating costs for Epson printers, I find that it's not too high when compared with alternatives. I'm getting about 50 to 100 letter size color pages, containing mostly photos, from a color cartridge costing about $26, or about 25 to 50 cents per page. I'm using HP premium inkjet paper for most photos, at about 10 cents per sheet. For higher quality, I'm using an Eaton/Southworth photo paper with glossy on one side and matte on the other, at about 50 cents per sheet. So, at the most, I'm spending about $1.00 per print up to 8 x 10 inches. If you print conventional color negatives on 8 x 10, you'll probably pay somewhere between $6 and $8 per print, and unless you do the work yourself, you'll have no control over cropping, color balance, etc. So my conclusion is that the available printers, cartriges, and papers for digital photos are now the alternatives of choice, based on price AND quality.
